Book Cover Photoshoot

Now I have written my first equestrian themed novel, designed the website and joined the numerous social platforms to post & tweet about it. We decided that it would be a fairly simple task to get a photographer friend of ours to take the cover photo, with my husband on his horse and me on mine (our horses have a passing resemblance to those in the story).

It’ll only take a few minutes”, my husband texted his friend.

The day dawned bright but not too sunny, perfect for photography the experts (my husband & his friend) told me.  We dragged our horses in from the field and gave them a once over (or two, or perhaps it was three) to get rid of the mud they have a habit of wallowing in.

We finally lined up for the photographer thinking this would be over in a minute and we can go for a hack. However my husbands’ semi-arthritic 15 yr old steady-away Friesian, who is perfectly behaved at all times, decided that standing still wasn’t on the agenda at all and his feeble attempts at remaining motionless provided a new definition for a “nanosecond”.

I had decided that we needed both horses nose to nose in a nod to the romantic elements of the book.  It appears that I had entirely forgotten my horses propensity to bite anything with four legs within a fifteen yard radius.

Two hours later we had 149 pictures of Suzie attempting to bite Beck whilst he backed away. Luckily, and by no small miracle, we also had the one shot that counted. And my husband also has a friend who now won’t answer his calls.

At last the photo has been chosen, the book cover designed and I love it, although that photo took some doing. I hope you love it as much as I do.
